The Systems View of Maintenance

For organizations to improve their performance, three key issues must be addressed:

  • how can one determine if the maintenance program needs improving?
  • if improvement is required, where should the improvement efforts be focused?
  • how can one determine if progress is being made on achieving the goals of the maintenance program?

To answer these questions requires a systematic assessment of the maintenance program status - identifying strengths and weaknesses of the program and determining how effective the program is in relation to the desired goals. Such an assessment requires:

  • identifying the essential elements of effective maintenance programs
  • viewing the maintenance program as a system of interrelated elements and activities
  • evaluating the goals and the plans to achieve these goals

In evaluating your company's maintenance programs, you could spend weeks, even months, figuring out the most effective way to approach this process. Or, you could save time, money, and headaches - and have CGI help you with a process that has been tried and proven efficient. We can help you determine when, why, and where improvement is needed, and how to go about doing it.
